Summer on Lake Conroe

Summer on Lake Conroe

June 13, 2019

It’s Summer Break for many, and it will soon be Summer time for all! That’s means…. Texas sizzle and what better way to cool off than with a little water (or a lot of water). Thankfully being a resident of Grand Central Park means we are surrounded by lakes and rivers, not to mention the gorgeous nearby large body of water known as Lake Conroe. There are so many fun and exciting things to do there and it’s practically in our backyard!! Before I dive into the happenings on Lake Conroe, did you know that the lake was planned and constructed shortly after the record seven-year drought of the 1950s as part of a reservoir-building boom intended by state water planners to prevent a repeat of the water shortages experienced during the drought?  It has only been in existence since the early 70’s and it’s close to 19,000 acres in size. WOW! #history

There are so many things to do, see and experience on the lake from great restaurants, watercraft and not to mention it makes for a great place to staycay or just get away locally. And did you know that La Torretta Resort is transforming into Texas’ first Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville Resort! How fun is that?! It’s set to open in the third quarter of 2020. Back to the things to do…  Have fun in the sun on Lake Conroe by:

  • Flyboarding (what… seriously -- it’s like rocketing on water)
  • Renting a boat (or launching your own)
  • Kayaking and paddle boarding
  • Fishing
  • Golf
  • Birding

Oh…. and then there’s the food! Yes, the food. Be still my taste buds. Lee and I recently went to the Pizza Shack, which is located just on the border of Conroe and Montgomery, on the West side of the lake. There’s nothing “shack-like” about that place. That’s just one of the many tasty restaurants that’s cooking up lots of flavor. I highly, highly, highly recommend Akashi Sushi, Fajita Jacks and Tony's Italian Delicatessen. A BIG “by the way”, Tony’s was named as Yelp’s No. 1 place to eat in 2017! Seriously!!! If you go there, you’ll see why!! If you’re wondering what shenanigans you can get into on the lake, then check out Live Lake Conroe’s website for all the happenings. And who knows, maybe you can catch the annual Christmas Boat Parade that’s held in December. Alright.. Shutting that down right now.. No more talks of Christmas (sorry).

Happy cooling down on the lake!!!
