When I say “Bark”, you say “Park”

October 14, 2019

When I say “Bark”, you say “Park”. Ready? “Bark” - “Park!” - “Bark” - “Park!” That’s what is communicated when I look into my sweet Nellie Dee’s eyes. Nellie has attended the last two Bark in the Parks and what an event! There is so much to do and it seems like it keeps getting bigger and better each year. There is a mile and a half walk and an after-pawty for the dogs and the entire family that is to beg for. Nellie says she loves walking with hundreds of her closest friends. She is still learning to count, but you better believe there are lots of dogs. If you’ve attended past events, then you know there are dogs from every walk of life (pun intended) ranging from pure breds to mighty mutts.

What I really like about Bark in the Park is that people can donate to Operation Pets Alive, which is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that strives to raise community awareness, reduce the number of dogs and cats that enter Montgomery County shelters and increase the number of dogs and cats that leave shelters alive.

My second favorite thing about Bark in the Park is the Houston Disc Dog Show. It’s the best professional frisbee dog show that Nellie and I have ever seen. We’re talking dogs flying (safely) through the air, doing somersaults off the back of their trainer and catching frisbees. Dogs giving high fives and showing off their agility and having an absolute ball doing it! The other really cool thing is that all of the dogs are rescue dogs. Seriously, how wonderful is that?

Registration opens at 10:00 a.m., the walk is at 11:00 a.m. and there will be a couple of dogs shows in between (not to mention several pet specific vendors)…an entire lineup of fun for the entire family (please, keep reading).
