Montgomery County Choral Society

October 22, 2019

As we approached First Methodist Conroe, I admit, I was yawning. I was already tired from the day even though it was only 6:45 p.m. I’m such a morning person… anyone else? I really was looking forward to the evening’s event (deep down inside, as I may have mentioned in previous blogs, I love music -  all kinds). But once the concert began it didn’t take long for my ears to perk up and the yawning ceased. As I listened to the 80-member choral sing, my feet began tapping the floor, I was swaying in my seat and singing along (lip-syncing of course) as we, the audience, were being taken on an “American Journey”. The Montgomery County Choral Society performed songs ranging from Yellow Rose of Texas, New York - New York, Walking in Memphis to Route 66 and God Bless America. They were accompanied by two local High Schools who did several numbers with them. I must admit, I was thoroughly impressed with everything. The Artist Director Heather Orr, the sharp dressed men wearing tuxedos and women who wore formal black dresses. It was such a treat to get to attend MCSS’ first concert of the season. While we didn’t make it for dinner, rumor has it that Kitchen Tales (local restaurant located on 105 - Lake Conroe) did not disappoint. I also heard the Banana Cream Pie (aka banana pudding pie) provided by Pie in the Sky was out-of-this world. If you’re experiencing what I call FOMO (fear of missing out), mark your calendar as the next concert “White Christmas”  will take place on Friday, December 6th at 7:30 p.m. at First Methodist Conroe. You can find out more information here.

If you’re the type who loves to sing and take part in the action, you can actually join the choral! They rehearse on Monday evenings at First Methodist Conroe. They are currently accepting new members for the 2019-2020 season. If you want to know what you’re getting into, here are some facts you’ll want to know:

  • MCSS was formed in 1972.
  • They are a non-profit that promotes music through a scholarship program and performances.
  • MCSS is a member of the Greater Conroe Arts Alliance, which is a collaborative nonprofit organization whose mission is to actively promote and support the arts and cultural organizations throughout the Greater Conroe Area.
  • Originally 30 members and has grown to 80 members.
  • Members range in age from high-school students to retirees, encompassing varied professions, and blending many levels of musical training and experience.
  • MCCS performs 3 concerts per year.

Who knows, maybe I’ll see you performing with the Montgomery County Choral Society in their next concert, White Christmas? How neat would that be? Or perhaps you and I can sit next to each other and tap along to the music. See you at the next concert!
