Getting in the Holiday Spirit

Getting in the Holiday Spirit

December 13, 2019

There’s a magical place not too far from us in College Station that I have not yet been to, but I’ve heard is out of this world a.m.a.z.i.n.g. A “must see” this time of year, especially if you have littles. You may have heard of it… it’s called Santa’s Wonderland. They’ve got so many fun activities like Santa’s Hayride Tours, VIP Horse and Carriage Rides, Santa’s Wonderland Jumping Pillows and Santa’s Lone Star Lane which is a lighted trail. Can you say perfect photo opp galore? Did I mention that there is a kids karaoke and a Toboggan kids chute and …. a petting zoo and pony ride!? But wait... there’s more!  Kids and big(ger) kids alike can meet Santa at his cottage where there’s a Texas-themed gingerbread village (gasp). W.O.W.!!! If Santa’s Wonderland doesn’t put you in the holiday spirit, I don’t know what will!

I do have a question… are you leaning in? What if you don’t have littles yet (like Lee and I), but you want to enjoy the holiday season in a kid-like fashion? It’s all about lights… before I go on, what I am about to share with you reminds me of the time Lee, our friend Erin and I brewed up some hot chocolate, loaded up our bikes and headed out on a Christmas light tour through a neighborhood in the Heights. Now that was fun! There’s something magical (there’s that word again), about seeing lights and festive decorations that makes you feel like a kid again. And you guys, these people take Christmas decorating to a whole new level (if you’re one of those people, THANK YOU).  Where could you go around here, to see such a show? Well, look no further. Below is a list of villages and neighborhoods not too far from Grand Central Park, where you can check out some spectacular Christmas lights.

  • Knightsbridge Dr in Harpers Landing
  • Bethany Bend in Alden Bridge
  • “Whoville” (June Breeze Pl) in Alden Bridge
  • Tangle Brush Drive (off Glen Loch)
  • Timber Lakes Dr/Timberridge

If you want to take the fun a step further, you could gather up “teams”, and have a scavenger hunt. Lee and I did this last year and we had the VERY best time. Basically you have a list of things to find such as a snow globe, Disney characters, nothing but red lights, a yard with a nativity scene and so on. Set a time for the teams to meet back up and see who found the most items on the list (pictures of findings optional and it depends on how technical aka competitive you want to get). Or.. you can just pile into the car with hot chocolate and Christmas music and enjoy the sights.

To all the kids, from the littles to the biggies, Happy Holidays to you!!!
