National Camera Day June 29th

National Camera Day June 29th

June 23, 2020

Since I haven’t been venturing out like normal, I’ve been logging on… onto the worldwide web that is! Anyone else? Enter Facebook Groups. There are so many, but there’s one in particular that is called View From My Window. It provides a great escape and gives the opportunity to go far without going far at all. You’ll go to places like Saba Island in the Carribean to Carrick Creagh, Harare, Zimbabwe to New York, NY! If you haven’t checked it out, I encourage you to do so, especially for my GCP friends and neighbors who are photographers at heart (you know who you are). You’re the ones who post beautiful pictures  of various views from your “window” so to speak of Deer Lake, trails and everything in between! The photos are great and I say, keep them coming!!

Speaking of pictures, did you know that Monday, June 29th is National Camera Day? I thought I would give you some fun facts about cameras and photography in general. Shall we take a stroll down memory lane?

  • 1816 is when the camera was invented or “developed” by who... That’s a great question! It depends on which website you visit (wink, wink).
  • The first ever digital camera was designed by Kodak in 1975.
  • According to Time.com (Dec. 2014), the most expensive photo was taken by Australian landscape photographer Peter Lik. The black-and-white image, called “Phantom,” was taken in Arizona’s Antelope Canyon and sold for $6.5 million.
  • National Selfie day is June 21st and the first selfie was taken by Robert Cornelius, an amateur chemist and photography enthusiast in Philadelphia. Cornelius took a picture of himself in the back of his family's chandelier store. It wasn’t called a selfie back then!
  • A physicist named James Clark Maxwell took the first ever color photograph in 1855.
  • According to digitaltrends.com, there's a strong argument that the first real camera phone was produced by Sharp and released in Japan by J-Phone (now SoftBank Mobile) in November of 2000. The J-SH04 could take photos at 110,000-pixel resolution or 0.11-megapixels.

On National Camera Day, what will you take a picture of? What view will you show from your window?
