We All Scream for Ice Cream!

We All Scream for Ice Cream!

September 16, 2020

You scream, I scream… we ALL scream for ice cream! That sounds so familiar, like I’ve heard it a dozen times or maybe I’ve said it a dozen times. Don’t you agree that August in Texas provided plenty of reasons to “scream for ice cream”?

Before I tell you about a new gourmet popsicle shop in Conroe, how about a quick history lesson on ice cream? According to IDFA.org, ‘"Cream Ice," as it was called, appeared regularly at the table of Charles I during the 17th century. France was introduced to similar frozen desserts in 1553 by the Italian Catherine de Medici when she became the wife of Henry II of France. It wasn't until 1660 that ice cream was made available to the general public.’ Ice cream was first mentioned in the New World in 1744 by way of a letter written by a guest of Maryland Governor William Bladen. On May 12, 1777, the first advertisement for ice cream appeared in the New York Gazette as Philip Lenzi, a confectioner, announced that ice cream was available "almost every day." Isn’t that interesting!? Ice cream has been “on the scene” for a very long time.

Do you have a hankering to get ice cream now? I have just the spot that will certainly “hit the spot”. It’s called Frios Gourmet Pops and they are located on 105 W by Lake Conroe. Frios has over 20 flavors of frozen treats to choose from, ranging from full calorie (hehe), low calorie, gluten/ dairy free and even vegan. Check out a few of their super unique flavors listed below.
