Time for a Jigsaw Puzzle!

Time for a Jigsaw Puzzle!

October 12, 2020

Out of curiosity, when was the last time you put a jigsaw puzzle together? I can’t remember the last time I did. What I do remember is the last time I gave a store bought jigsaw puzzle as a gift. Keep reading to find out why I say “store bought.”

Recently on a morning run, one of the GCP Runners mentioned that he took a picture of Deer Lake and made a jigsaw puzzle out of it to give as a gift. I thought that was a wonderful idea! I’m not sure if it was his idea or his better half’s, I mean.. Other half’s idea. Regardless, it was a great idea since there are many benefits to working a jigsaw puzzle, which I’ll discuss later. But what a cool gift to give! Grand Central Park provides plenty of beautiful photo opps for any puzzle and for anyone! Yes? Yes!

I’ve never considered myself patient enough to put a puzzle together. Anyone else? Once you read the benefits below, you may be like me and quickly change your mind! If you’re already a regular puzzler who “pieces out”, then I commend you!

As of late, jigsaw puzzles have been making a comeback along with vinyl album records, coloring books and traditional board games (which you know I love). Did you know that because of the recent pandemic, it has been harder to find jigsaw puzzles and for good reason! Look at all of the reasons…

According to Google, regularly working a jigsaw puzzle may...

  • Help improve spatial reasoning
  • Increase productivity
  • Greater attention to detail
  • Improve memory
  • Increase IQ
  • Improve problem solving ability
  • Provide mental stimulation as in mental exercise
  • Foster better collaboration and teamwork

Working a jigsaw puzzle has even been known to reduce stress and anxiety....however my favorite reason is that it may add years to your life. If the foundation of youth can be found in a puzzle, I say yes and please!

There are lots of places to have a custom jigsaw puzzle made with your favorite Grand Central Park photo such as Shutterfly, Walgreens, Puzzlesprint and more (just ask Google).

Until next time, “piece out” friends!
