Bark in the Park FAQs

Is there a registration fee to participate?

While there is no registration fee for Bark in the Park Dog Walk, we encourage participants to donate to Operation Pets Alive. Every dollar donated to Operation Pets Alive makes a difference and helps reduce the number of dogs and cats that enter their shelters.

I want to bring my kids with me. Do they need to register?

Yes, all participants and spectators must register online or may register in person at Bark in the Park.

What are your guidelines to participate in the walk?

Please follow these guidelines when determining if Bark in the Park is right for your four-legged friend.

  • No more than two dogs per participant.
  • No female dogs in heat.
  • Dogs attending must be social and friendly with other dogs and people.
  • Dogs attending must be comfortable in crowds.
  • Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations. This means puppies must be over 4 months old and have completed their full set of puppy vaccinations, including rabies. Dogs must be wearing rabies tags.
  • All dogs must be kept on a leash, no longer than 6 feet, at all times.
  • Dogs who display aggressive behavior, as determined by Grand Central Park volunteers or staff, will be asked to leave.

How can I become a volunteer?

The success of Bark in the Park depends heavily on the support we receive from our volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, please register online or email amandam@johnsondev.com.

What happens if it rains?

We walk rain or shine. In the event of lightning or other dangerous conditions, we will determine if the event needs to be canceled. Please watch for weather-related updates via email, the event website and the Facebook event page.

Where does my donation go?

All donations will go directly to Operation Pets Alive, a non-profit, all volunteer organization striving to elevate Montgomery County to a No-Kill community through innovative programs that raise community awareness, reduce the number of dogs and cats that enter our shelters and increase the number of dogs and cats that leave our shelters alive.

Where do we park?

You will enter Grand Central Park on Camp Strake Road, off Interstate 45. Follow the event signs to the designated parking areas. We will have parking attendants directing all traffic.

How long is the walk?

There are two separate distances you can choose from, a 1 mile or 2.5 mile walk.

What is allowed for the walk?

Strollers and wagons are permitted. Scooters, bikes, rollerblades, and skateboards are not permitted for the safety of our walkers and dogs.

Do I need to sign a waiver form?

Yes, everyone entering the event premises will need to sign a waiver at registration regardless if you have pre-registered or not. You can also download and bring the waiver with you beforehand or send to amandam@johnsondev.com.
