PhD in Pie
October 07, 2019
I remember it all too well...the jingle that quickly became the kind you keep singing long after the commercial has ended, “Me-o-my the pie”. This commercial was for Tiffany’s Restaurant at Lake Fork Marina that boasted about delicious pies. We listened to it on a little battery operated radio in the middle of Lake Fork as Lee, his Dad and I waited for weigh in results every hour or so because we were taking part in the Skeeter Bass Boat Fishing Tournament. After spending some (or make that a lot of time) on the lake, you better believe we had some of that delicious pie that we heard about more times than I care to count. During that time, it was confirmed that I’m not much of an angler, but I very well could have a PhD in pie!
But it wasn’t that long ago that I once again found myself singing out “me-o-my the pie!”. I am so very grateful that living in Grand Central Park affords me the opportunity to indulge every once in a while in what I believe is the best pie ever. Thank you, friends, at Pie in the Sky! The pie that had my taste buds working overtime was the Buttermilk Vanilla Pecan, served on a dish with vanilla ice cream… is your mouth watering yet?
Pie in the Sky got its start when Marlene was given ½ an acre next to her parent’s convenience store to open the restaurant. This came after she pursued a career as a singer in addition to having several businesses ranging from painting t-shirts to making jewelry and other artistic types of things. While working for her parents at their convenience store, she was able to develop and grow her business of making pies. Today, Pie in the Sky is a franchise. The second location is in College Station and the third is set to open in Magnolia this month. And in addition to pies they also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
It’s currently Fall Fest at Pie in the Sky, taking place from October 1st - November 30th. You can try their Harvest Pumpkin Pie in a pie waffle or pie shake. Side note, pies can be picked up in the restaurant or shipped to you!! They’ve got specialty coffees too - Maple Spice Latte and Pumpkin Spice Latte. They also have pumpkin spice EVERYTHING: bread, cheese bars, and cakeballs. Check them out for breakfast, lunch and pie!!
What kind of pie do you fancy?
Is there anything else to say besides “me-o-my the pie!”. It’s time for pie, y’all!
